Young people ages 10 – 13 (Grades 6 – 8) will learn to develop their artistic skills and build their community through a group project using recycled materials. In this FREE six-week class students will learn how to tell their stories by creating a collaborative life size installation of their block using recycled materials. Each student will be asked to include their vision for their community into the completed installation.
Students will learn how to
• Up-cycle and re-use materials to become more sustainable citizens
• Work as a team
• Build community amongst one another and through their art
• Realize their dreams by creating a visual reminder of what those dreams ARE
• Build material manipulation skills
• Examine the historical context of the arts in NYC and link it to the present
• Study the legacy of Romare Bearden
