Oscars 2018 – Best Supporting Actor

Posted on the 04 March 2018 by Caz @LetsGoToTheMov7

This is always a pretty tough category because of the strong performances from the actors and not usually too much between the nominees and I think that is something that can be said for 2018 as well.

Let's take a closer look at the five actors who have been nominated in a supporting role . . .

Willem Dafoe, The Florida Project

Unfortunately I did not manage to see this film.

Woody Harrelson, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (Review)

Let's face it Harrelson is great in a supporting role and that he was just brilliant in Three Billboards as he attempts to keep the peace and everything flowing but a tough character who has a secret. I thought he was great in the film but doesn't really seem to get many mentions because of Rockwell and McDormand.

Richard Jenkins, The Shape Of Water (Review)

For a few years now I have always been impressed with Jenkins who I would say is the perfect supporting actor but would probably not have enough to be a full on leading man. In The Shape of Water he gives a heartfelt performance as a struggling artist who cannot really cope with the life he has ended up with. A lovely performance which compliments Hawkins so much throughout the film.

Christopher Plummer, All the Money in the World (Review)

Now this one is a bit of a strange nomination isn't it? Considering the controversy around this film and having Plummer replace Spacey very quickly with the allegations. Although thinking about it surely Plummer should have just been cast in this role anyway? He put in a haunting performance as a heartless man and he is now the oldest person to be nominated for an acting Oscar!

Sam Rockwell, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (Review)

Can anyone pull of a shock to beat Rockwell who has picked up so many awards for his crazy performance in Three Billboards. His character is horrible that is for sure which means his performance is fantastic. Although has always seemed to pull off this creepy horrible performance throughout his career.

Who I want to win: Richard Jenkins for The Shape of Water
Who I think will win: Sam Rockwell for Three Billboards

Who was your favourite for performance this year?
