Orphaned Baby Elephant Rescued After Revenge Attack

Angry locals in Laikipia, Kenya attacked an orphaned baby elephant after a member of its herd killed a woman.  The tiny calf was speared several times. Rangers had earlier shot the elephant responsible for the death, causing the herd to stampede leaving the calf behind. The youngster sought refuge in a nearby school, but children threw stones at her and left her for dead.

Luckily, she was found injured and traumatized on the classroom floor.  A warden from the Naibunga Conservancy stepped in to calm the situation, and quickly contacted the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT).  Dispatched from their base in Nairobi, the rescue team arrived on the scene with tensions still running high.
