While the vast majority of professionals feel that enterprise resource planning (ERP) tools are critical to business, a significant number are underwhelmed by their ERP system performance, according to a new survey from Epicor Software Corporation. The accompanying e-book-styled report, titled “Mobile, Social, Cloud and ERP: Whose Business Systems Are Ready for What’s Next?,” reveals that it’s taking too long for users to get the information they seek from these solutions. Users also need simpler ways to access that information. CIOs should take notice of a particularly glaring shortcoming on the access front: Mobility, as a surprisingly small number of survey respondents say they can connect to their ERP resources via a smartphone or a tablet. And while social media remains a key way to engage with suppliers and customers, the presence of ERP as a social, business-benefiting tool is minimal. Meanwhile, companies in China and Mexico appear poised to gain advantage over their U.S. counterparts on the deployment of ERP to enhance social media efforts. More than 1,500 global business professionals who work in organizations which use ERP took part in the research. For more about the survey, click here.
