Oprah Winfrey sprinkled some of her Black girl magic when she stopped by Good Morning America Wednesday morning to talk A Wrinkle In Time with Robin Roberts.
Oprah and Roberts discussed her A Wrinkle In Time Barbie doll. Mattel released the limited edition dolls inspired by the film’s main characters, Mrs. Which, Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Who. Reflecting on her past, Oprah shared with Roberts that growing up she couldn’t afford a Barbie doll.
“My whole life we couldn’t afford a Barbie,” Oprah said during the interview. She said Barbies were a far cry from the type of dolls she had as a child.
“I had actually a corn cob doll,” she admitted.
Here is a pic of a corn cob doll:
“You go in the cornfield and you take the corn shucks and the golden hair, what was the silk of the corn and that’s what we played with,” she explained. “I started with a corn cob doll and then to have a full circle that there’s a doll made in your image and the image of the character is pretty incredible actually.”
