Oprah and Quincy Jones are coming together again, to bring the Color Purple musical to the big screen.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the duo are teaming back up with Steven Spielberg to make the movie musical happen.
Both the movie and stage productions adapted the 1982 novel by Walker. The triumph-over-adversity story follows the decades-spanning tale of a black woman named Celie, who grows up in intense poverty in the American South and endures harsh treatment from her stepfather, husband and others in her life, which tests her faith in God and humankind.
The musical premiered on Broadway in 2005 ( I think I still have my t-shirt), earning 11 Tony nominations. The 2016 revival that starred Cynthia Erivo won two Tonys, including best musical revival, as well as a Grammy and an Emmy.
The big screen adaption of the musical is in early production, so I will definitely keep you guys posted on developments!
