Opinion Battles Year 4 Round 5

Worst Movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Avengers Infinity War has smashed onto the big screen, bringing all the work together from the years of the films, we have looked at the best before, but now lets look at the worst movie from this universe.

Ant-Man

Opinion Battles Year 4 Round 5 – Worst Movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

This is my pick because I wasn’t a fan of the character, I also didn’t enjoy the movie and it is the only one I haven’t returned to re-watch of the films in the MCU.

Ironman 2

Opinion Battles Year 4 Round 5 – Worst Movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Boring and pointless is how I felt about Iron Man 2. It was a drag to watch mostly because it felt like nothing much fitted together. Its forgettable and formulaic and perhaps one of the worst parts was because Iron Man was so outstanding and brought such a bombastic character with Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man that its sequel just seemed like a disappointment. Sometimes, whats worse than a bad movie is a disappointing one and its why this one is the worst MCU movie.

The Incredible Hulk

Opinion Battles Year 4 Round 5 – Worst Movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Hmm. I’m going to go with The Incredible Hulk. Why? Because it’s the only one I haven’t seen. At least, I don’t THINK I saw it. I think I saw “the other Hulk movie”. And I get them confused. And I don’t care. I prefer watching Thor. Shirtless. 🙂

Thor 2: The Dark World

Opinion Battles Year 4 Round 5 – Worst Movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

DUDE, it’s another big death cloud. Until, like, 2 months ago, I didn’t even like Thor too much, so, to have him in a movie as generic and boring as this, is just another thing Ragnarok had to overcome.

Captain America: The First Avenger

Opinion Battles Year 4 Round 5 – Worst Movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Now I haven’t seen all the MCU movies. Not even close! I haven’t even seen Iron Man for god’s sake, so this was quite a tough round for me. Mainly because I’m basing my answer entirely on the handful I HAVE seen – and to be honest I didn’t dislike any of them really, they’re just not massively my cup of tea. That’s all.

So anyway, the reason I’m choosing Captain America as my least favorite MCU Film is because the character/hero ‘Captain America’ is basically – a little bit annoying sometimes. He’s like, too much of a goody-two-shoes. Do you know what I mean? Another slight reason to nominate this film is the brutal fact that I have seen it, yet can barely remember it – and how I wouldn’t ever want to watch it again.

Doctor Strange

Opinion Battles Year 4 Round 5 – Worst Movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Least favorite Marvel Movie..Has to be Dr Strange,, I just got superbored by Benedict Cumberbatch and Tilda Swinton…. but then they both are on my list of actors and actresses to avoid where possible as (no offense guys) they freak me out. And both of the in a Marvel movie is just wrong, but to have his love interest in Rachel McAdams, who I loved in About Time and Morning Glory (but not in the Notebook) is really wrong. Dont ask me what the films about as tbh, I got superbored and switched off. The worst bit of it all was they put lovely Chris Hemsworth in the after credits scene which is wrong on all levels being a bit of a fan of this particular Norse God actor. So I’m superglad I saw it on DVD, and my husband told me of Hemsworth’s scenes so when I screamed “no more Cumberbatch…” we zoomed to the after credits and hey presto.. one happy me, call it the Helmsworth effect..

Ironman 2

Opinion Battles Year 4 Round 5 – Worst Movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Asking me what is my least favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe film is like asking me what my least favorite Legend of Zelda game is: I like them all, just some more than others. There isn’t any film in the MCU that I don’t like, just some are more enjoyable than others. That is the case for Iron Man 2. It did a decent job of balancing Tony Stark and his journey, as well as setting up SHIELD and laying the path towards the first Avengers film, but it gets too bloated. I know that’s a harsh statement considering all the characters the Avengers films have had to balance. However, the story to me isn’t as compelling as those films or even Iron Man 3. And after having Iron Monger as the villain in Iron Man, the last thing I wanted to see was another armor-based villain. Iron Man 2 isn’t bad, it just isn’t great either.

Ironman 2

Opinion Battles Year 4 Round 5 – Worst Movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

From the first time I watched it, I knew that it was the weakest of the series. The story is kind of boring and the whole middle section with Tony being drunk and despondent all the time was a little annoying. And he discovers a whole new element in the most convoluted way!

Plus, this film has one of the weakest MCU villains, not helped by the major disagreements between Mickey Rourke and the studio.

But at least Black Widow makes her first appearance, so that’s cool.

Thor

Opinion Battles Year 4 Round 5 – Worst Movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

The weakest film of the MCU that just doesn’t work well enough. The origin story of Thor is fine yet parts of the storyline feel too “tacked on”. The fact that it is a small chapter in a greater Universe of stories helps a bit, but as a stand alone, this just isn’t up to par and feels too average. Thankfully, the storyline gets better as the future films progress, but this is not a very good starting point. Apparently the story of Thor needed time to gain enough momentum over the period of 6 years in order to finally get great.

The Incredible Hulk

Opinion Battles Year 4 Round 5 – Worst Movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has done a great job introducing each character in their unique world, but there is one that stands out for all the wrong reasons:

The Incredible Hulk.”

Edward Norton was the wrong choice to play Bruce Banner.  Norton was the wrong choice to be in a film that needed to stay focused on the mythology of the character and the Marvel world.

Did you ever see the “behind-the-scenes” shot of Norton trying to make changes to the film in the edit bay?

The internet is filled with stories of on-set and post production fights between Norton and the Marvel team.  He has a reputation for being difficult to work with, and to me, Marvel has a singular vision for its world that won’t work with this type of personality involved.  His attitude and demeanor, both onscreen and off, makes it difficult to watch this one.

Bring on Mark Ruffalo!

The Incredible Hulk

Opinion Battles Year 4 Round 5 – Worst Movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

This round wasn’t a terribly hard one to pick. The worst Marvel movie is the one that has had the least impact on the MCU: The Incredible Hulk. Now, it’s not a bad movie altogether, but it pales next to Marvel’s many successes since. Edward Norton is a rather forgettable Bruce Banner, as is Liv Tyler as his love interest, and except for William Hurt, no element of this film has been seen in the franchise since. Its sequel hints were long ago dropped, and the big climax becomes wearisome with all the repetitive smashing. I’m making it sound worse than it is, but it’s definitely the weakest MCU movie to date
