Opera Now Supports the Cryptocurrency Ecosystems Bitcoin, Polygon, Solana, and Five More

Over 380 million Opera clients will now be able to “benefit from blockchains and decentralized apps and services.”

Opera, the company behind the multi-platform web browser of the same name, said today that it has added support for eight major blockchains as part of its “big leap towards web3.”

“Opera, the company behind the world’s first native web3 browser with built-in crypto wallet, today announced adding support for several major blockchain ecosystems, including Solana, Polygon, StarkEx, Ronin, Celo, Nervos, IXO, and Bitcoin,” the company stated in a blog post.

according to the statement users would be able to access the large ecosystem of Polygon or Solana dApps, as well as the benefits of Layer 2 DeFi, using StarkWare-powered DiversiFi. Axie Infinity customers may also manage their non-fungible token-based animals through the Ethereum-based Ronin Network (which was recently hacked for over $615 million).

Furthermore, Opera noted that the launch increased consumers’ access to proof-of-stake blockchains as well as Ethereum’s Layer-2 solutions Polygon and StarkEx.

“By gaining entry to these blockchains, users can benefit from lower gas fees and faster transactions while minimizing their carbon footprint and still leveraging Ethereum’s robust decentralization and security.”

Overall, the simultaneous integration of numerous major blockchains and Layer-2 networks “is a vital strategy in Opera’s desire to remain chain agnostic” and enable millions of its users to access Web3 “in an environmentally friendly way.”

“Ultimately, Web3 is on its way to becoming a mainstream web technology and users won’t need to know they’re interacting with it. They need to get a superior user experience and a true benefit,” Jorgen Arnesen, EVP Mobile at Opera, said.

According to CryptoSlate, Opera started beta testing its dedicated Crypto Browser in late January. The Crypto Browser Project from Opera, which has an integrated bitcoin wallet and web3 support, is designed to interface with a variety of decentralized applications. Furthermore, the browser has a section called Crypto Corner, which provides users with access to the most recent blockchain news, airdrops, and events.
