There's a Brazilian reasons to visit Fazenda
Sorry, that's a bit of a dad thing to say, isn't it? We were invited along to the soft opening of South American restaurant, Fazenda Bar & Grill on Edinburgh's George Street and left, not only with full bellies, but with high hopes for the latest restaurant to open in Edinburgh.
Fazenda is a small chain who also have restaurants in Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool but the founders originate from Brazil/Argentina, and so the restaurants were borne out of a desire to recreate the style of Brazilian/Argentinian restaurants which were missing from the UK, or where they did exist were poorly implemented.
The Edinburgh Fazenda Bar & Grill will open today, Friday 23rd February. Their centrally-located George Street site is huge inside with 175 covers and it looks stunning with tan leather banquette seating glowing under chandeliers designed to look like candles.

The food here reflects the Brazilian/Argentine gaucho experience. Gauchos were skilled horseman who liked a bit of meat! They would settle down in the evening with meat and mate (pronounced mah-tay), which is a herbal infusion a bit like green tea. And so, to bring this experience to a modern setting...
Rodízio (or churrascaria) is the serving style. What is Rodízio? It's an all-you-can-eat style of restaurant service. Customers pay a fixed price and waiters bring successions of prime cuts including chicken, lamb, pork and beef to each customer at several times throughout the meal, until the customers signal that they have had enough food!
Food
So let's get onto the food. To start the Fazenda experience we visit the sides bar. You could really spend the whole evening here as there's a huge selection of food on offer from salads to cheese, cured meats, fish and more.
Then settle back down in your seat whilst waiters serve skewers of tasty meats.
Meat is carved at the table so use your tongs to remove a slice.
Meat really is the star of the show at Fazenda, but it isn't the only tasty thing on offer. The vegetarian and pescatarian choices were delicious as well.

The food at Fazenda was impressive, with a variety of moist and tender meats served until you can handle no more - that's what you call a first world problem!
If you have room, try the selection of Brazilian desserts - perfect canapé-sized sweet treats including Caipirinha cheesecake. 😍
