The interest of research in online casinos has peaked in the UK since the blockade, the data show.
Google Trends shows that gambling has moved online between the closure of physical gambling venues and the cancellation of sporting events.
Problematic gamblers said the BBC's blockade measures were a "recipe for disaster".
The Commission's monitoring committee on gambling said that an increase in online gambling has occurred, but there is still no evidence of an increase in problem gambling.
How is gambling changing?
Despite a general decline in gambling, the commission said that there has been an increase in some customers across the industry who play online slots, poker, casino games and virtual sports.
Busy gamblers are also spending more time or money during the block, the data shows.
Anna Hemmings, chief executive of GamCare, a UK charity that deals with gambling problems, said that "there is a worrying context for people at risk."
He said "contributing factors [to gambling problems], such as financial difficulties, isolation and boredom "were increasing with Covid-19.
The watchdog has provided new guidelines to game companies to help its customers.
"We are closely monitoring online operators and if we experience irresponsible behavior we will take immediate action, suspending licenses if necessary," said Commission CEO Neil McArthur.
The gamblers problem
The BBC spoke to people recovering from compulsive gambling on condition of anonymity.
Steve, who works as a manager and is married, had run out of credit cards and had 14 payday loans to cover debts before seeking help.
"Accessing online gambling on cell phones during the blockade is a recipe for disaster," he said.
The gambling industry made a commitment earlier this month to block radio and television advertising during the blockade, but the pick-up players expressed concern over exposure to online classifieds.
"I'm sure the bonus offers with the gaming companies are better than they have ever been," said Steve.
"I worry about anyone who is not in a problem area, but is close, since there are no other distractions."
Paul he hasn't gambled for two years and four months since joining Gamblers Anonymous.
He said it was easy to become a "hidden gambler" since the click of a cell phone button could spin an online roulette wheel while sitting on the sofa at home.
The father of two said that many people he had met in recovery had previously turned to gambling to improve their mood when they were stressed or anxious.
Former landscape gardener Dan accumulated £ 50,000 in debt in a "short span of time".
"I would try to borrow money from friends and relatives with no real intention to repay it and you will end up being blacklisted by those people without anyone understanding the problem because you become a compulsive liar.
"With this situation at the moment [lockdown]without the right help, there will be a real wave of financial ruin until gambling.
"If I had been left alone, not working, I would have been on my phone all day."
How is the industry regulated?
The use of credit cards and electronic wallets such as PayPal, Skrill and Neteller for gambling has been banned in Britain since April 14th.
GamCare said that the ability to use credit cards exacerbated some people's problems as they chased gambling losses with additional funds that they couldn't afford to repay.
More than £ 16.5 million had already been played with HSBC UK credit cards since the beginning of the year, with an average transaction value of £ 65, the bank said.
Since the start of the blockade, his clients had spent over £ 1.6 million on gambling transactions.
HSBC UK, which has worked with GamCare to form a team to help clients with gambling addictions, said its call center currently receives an average of 1,000 calls per month on the game.
What help is available?
Since March 31, all online gambling operators in the UK have had to be registered with Gamstop.
Gamstop is a free service that allows gamblers to exclude themselves from online gambling sites with a single registration. They choose a minimum exclusion period of six months, one year or five years.
There has been an increase since the blocking of people asking Gamstop to reverse their self-exclusion began, but once registered, the system does not allow them to cancel until the end of the originally chosen minimum period.
In the past 30 days, according to Google, searches for non-Gamstop casinos have also increased.
Gamstop said this was a sign "in a sense that the new regulatory system was working".
"However, it is obviously irresponsible for anyone to promote unlicensed websites that are not regulated by the Gambling Commission and consumers are strongly advised not to use them," he said.
Anonymous gamblers said it did not remove the temptation by stopping using credit cards during gambling.
"It just makes it a little more difficult," he said. "If a compulsive gambler wants to play online, he will find a way."
Steve said that the systems established by gambling companies to protect customers were purely "ticks" but "99% of operators" were covered by GamStop.
The commission said it had suspended the operating licenses of two operators who had initially failed to sign up for Gamstop.
Where he saw unauthorized individuals or companies in Britain interact illegally with British consumers, he said he would act to close them.
He said he expected operators to intervene when they saw evidence of gambling-related damage and checked people's funding sources.
"We are failing to do so extremely seriously," said the commission.
