- A press release from Samsung confirms which devices will receive One UI 2.5, the latest version of Sammy's Android skin.
- The list includes the brand's two flagships for 2018: the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy Note 9.
- This is a welcome surprise from the company and suggests that further updates cannot be ruled out.
Samsung launched One UI 2.5 along with its latest Samsung Galaxy Note 20 range. It was announced today that the other 2020 flagships - the Galaxy S20 series - will see the update soon. Unexpectedly, however, it also confirmed that its flagships for 2018 will soon get it too.
An online press release describing the new features in One UI 2.5 displays a list of all devices that should receive the update. Just scroll down and you will see them all in the fine print and the Galaxy S9 and Note 9 are there.
A UI 2.5 update: the full list
Here are the phones Samsung says will get the latest One UI update:
- Whole Galaxy S20 series
- Entire Galaxy Note 20 series
- All Galaxy S10 devices including the S10e and S10 Lite
- Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus
- All Galaxy Note 10 devices including Note 10 Lite and 5G models
- Samsung Galaxy Note 9
- Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Flip 5G
- All Samsung Galaxy Fold models
Unfortunately, Samsung doesn't promise to roll out the One UI 2.5 update to other devices. That said, there are no promises for anything in the Galaxy A or Galaxy M series of phones. However, it's likely that the One UI 2.5 will eventually make it to the high-end offerings in these areas - it's just that Samsung isn't making a commitment for the time being.

The big question now, of course, is whether or not Samsung will release an update for Android 11 for its older models. We didn't expect the Galaxy S9 or Galaxy Note 9 to get Android 11 as Samsung has an upgrade limit for two years. However, with the new three-year directive, there is a small chance that this will have a retroactive effect on the 2018 flagships. The possibility is there, however small it may be.
Don't get your hopes up for now, but don't give up hope entirely either!
