LG is the company that has been producing quality smartphones but not found the necessary name for itself. With the Make in India initiative bringing in more companies to produce their goods in India, this time the South Korean electronics giant, LG, has made its official statement on Thursday that it is looking forward to manufacturing 1 million phones in India.
This was done along with the launch of two locally made Smartphones LG K7 LTE and LG K10 LTE, by Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
LG will be first manufacturing the phones at its Noida facility along with the GDN Enterprises. This manufacturing process is for the two smartphones – the LG K7 LTE and LG K10 LTE which are priced at Rs. 9,500 and Rs. 13,500 respectively.
LG is the latest entrant to start manufacturing of phones in the country, after the country got a lot of manufactures following the Make in India initiative. The join the league of several device makers, including Micromax, Lava, Gionee, OnePlus, and Xiaomi who have already started the assembling of their devices in the country.
All this comes after India has been declared as one of the fastest growing smartphone markets globally and most device makers are now keen to set up manufacturing units here to cater to the burgeoning demand.
While the LG Electronics India Managing Director Kim Ki-Wan said “We want to tap the huge potential for smartphones in the country and the K-series will be the first ones to be manufactured in India,” in New Delhi, he also added that the company is optimistic over the new models to drive its growth in the smartphone segment in India. Prasad said it was an occasion of personal satisfaction for him to see companies setting up base in India for electronics manufacturing.
