Created by celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton and American Idol creator, Simon Fuller, up and comers Dana Vaughns, Cole Pendery, Gabe Morales, Dalton Rapattoni, and Will Jay come together to form the boy band IM5.
With the charisma of the boy bands of the 90s and the charm reminiscent of One Direction and the boys next door, IM5 is stealing the hearts of teens and tweens everywhere. While the name may seem unfamiliar at first, many may recognize their faces from this past summer’s viral Youtube hit, “Disney Dudez“, where the boys, with the help of Idol alum Todrick Hall, mashed up Disney songs with recognizable hits of the past and present. Since the group’s conception, the boys of IM5 have been hard at work to put out new music for their fans, and have recently released a new single, “Superman”, which can be listened to here.
Even with their hectic schedule, the boys were able to make time to answer some questions for Candor News. Check out what they had to say below:
Q. You’ve recently been signed to Universal. What can fans expect from you in the coming months, and will there be any changes?
IM5: We’re thinking about taking our music in an edgier direction. Definitely more performances and new songs.
Q. What was the inspiration for the song “Superman”?
Dana: Dalton and Will wrote the song about a bad breakup that Dalton went through.
Q. What has it been like transitioning from “normal” life to having the exposure you have now? Any interesting fan encounters to talk about?
Cole: It’s hard to be away from our families, but we’re living our dreams! It’s still so crazy getting stopped and recognized in places.
Q. What was it like when you all first met? What were your initial reactions to each other?
Gabe: We were all surprised we got along so well so soon, considering that we’re 5 very different people.
Q. What keeps you grounded? Do you think the recognition you’ve received has changed you?
Will: The recognition we’ve received up to this point has been a blessing, but it hasn’t changed us and it never will! We would say our families and our great team around us keeps us grounded.
Q. What was your first concert?
IM5: Our first performance together was the Youth Rock Awards in 2011.
First concerts we’d been to:
Dalton: Fair to Midland
Cole: Jonas Brothers
Dana: Britney Spears
Gabe: Backstreet Boys
Will: The Script
Q. What is your dream concert line-up?
IM5: Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, Drake, Blue October, Michael Jackson

(For those not in the know, their fans are called 5ers!)
Q. Of the cities that you’ve been to, which one is your favorite and why?
Dalton: Chicago- the crowd was great and the city was awesome!
Q. What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
IM5: “Don’t have a back-up plan, because then you back up.” – Abby Lee Miller
Q. Of the food challenges you’ve done (cinnamon challenge, chubby bunny, etc), which one was your favorite?
Dana: Least favorite? Least favorite was definitely the cinnamon challenge…we don’t really have a favorite because they’re all rather unpleasant.
Q. If you had three minutes left to live, what would you say and to who?
IM5: We would tell our family and friends that we love them.
Q. Any advice to aspiring artists?
IM5: Be original, perform as much as possible, and make sure you love what you’re doing.
