On the holiness of the Name of the Father

According to Cyril of Alexandria, the name of “Father” as applied to the First Person of the Holy Trinity – that is, God the Almighty Father – is superior to the very name of God Himself as “God,” because the First Person “is called Father by the One who is best and most worthy, i.e. by the Son” (Relic 5. P.G. 75, cols. 65-68) who is similarly God in His essence. This is why in the Lord’s Prayer, after saying “Our Father, Who art in Heaven,” we proceed to say “Hallowed be Thy Name.” It is not simply the Name of God as God that is holy, but the actual name of God the First Person as Father.
