On Pro Hair Live & Wearing Latex

Posted on the 24 March 2014 by Holliegalloway @holliegalloway

I do some hair modelling for Hooker & Young from time to time and these past 2 days I’ve been at Professional Hairdresser Live in Manchester with them. I’ve always been a huge fan of creative hairstyling and this event is absolutely mindblowing when it comes to that. Being a model we didn’t get to spend much time exploring the convention, but what we did see was so SO impressive. Here’s a few pictures I’ve pinched off Instagram:

The event is a huge convention of talks, demonstrations, stores and products, it’s a hairdressers (and hair fans) heaven. Tim Hartley came up with my favorite looks and I am absolutely definitely getting one of those cut in when my hair has grown a little. Also the makeup was so strong in his collection, I’m in love:

This event was also the first time I’ve worn latex. I’ve always loved the way latex looked, I think it’s such an amazing and unusual material and can be so striking. I mean just look at it:

I always thought I’d really like to own some but having spent 2 days in it, I’m not so sure anymore. While I’ve never pursued practicality in an outfit before, this is the most impractical fabric I’ve ever worn. I was leaning towards not actively pursuing it in my own life now but after looking at those pictures again I’ve remembered how incredible it looks. Unfortunately I haven’t seen any pictures of us in it yet, hopefully some will appear soon, I’m very keen to see what it looks like on me.

We did 2 shows yesterday and 1 show today. For the Fellowship for British Hairdressing and for Matrix Haircare. The latex was coordinated with our own red and black hair (as cut and coloured by Hooker & Young) and we also did avant-garde looks with wigs that our stylists created and changed into dresses made by British Hairdressing Junior of the Year, Jonathan Turner. I actually have one picture of this so far:

Anyway, it’s been a great couple of days, Pro Hair Live is a fantastic event, and latex is not all I might have hoped and dreamed but I still love the way it looks and probably do still want to own some. Have any of you ever worn latex? How do you find it?
