SYDNEY (Reuters)-Singapore suspended counterblockade-free trip bookings and Australia renewed its vaccination drive on Wednesday as surging Omicron infections just days before Christmas forced authorities to put new checks and expedite supporter shots.
Governments encyclopedically have tensed social mobility restrictions and made critical pleas for citizens to vaccinate as Omicron emerges as the dominant strain of the coronavirus, pitching continuing plans that numerous hoped would herald the launch of apost-pandemic period in 2022.

Japan reported its first suspected case of community transmission of Omicron on Wednesday while India has prompted its countries to prepare for surges and allowed them to put restrictions on crowds and gatherings.
India’s Omicron cases have nearly doubled over the once week.
U.S. President Joe Biden on Tuesday promised half a billion free rapid-fire COVID-19 tests and advised the quarter of American grown-ups who are unvaccinated that their choices could spell the” difference between life and death”.
Countries are also looking to dock the time between alternate vaccination shots and boosters. Still, cautious of public lockdown fatigue, there’s disinclination to return to the strict checks assessed during the spread of the Delta variant before this time.
