Ology Detergent Review

By Savvybrown @savvybrownblog

Ology is Walgreen’s new line of green products.  The line sports conditionerbaby lotion, toilet paper, CFL light bulbs, glass cleaner, fabric softener and more.  I’m always a bit skeptical when a big company starts putting out a line of green products, honestly, so it wasn’t until a display coupon for $2.00 that I decided to try the laundry detergent. (I rarely buy laundry detergent since I like to make my own).

Ology Stain Fighting 2x Laundry Detergent Free & Clear (50 oz.) $5.59

Ingredients: Water , Laureth 7 , methyl 2-sulfolaurate , Disodium 2 Sulfolaurate , Sodium Bicarbonate , Methyl Soyate ,  Sodium Chloride , Cocoamidopropyl Betaine , Sodium Propionate

This stuff actually works pretty well. I own a front-load washer and used the suggested capful and was pleasantly surprised at how well it cleaned a load of smelly workout clothes and then another load of the microfiber cloths I clean with. I also used some to hand wash some lingerie and it did a fine job with that too. I also like that this brand has fragrance free versions of just about everything. The only ingredient that made me raise my eyebrow was the coconut-based surfactant Laureth-7 which according to the EWG has a low health hazard rating, but still isn’t that great for the environment. But it’s certainly not as bad as sodium laureth sulfate. (This ingredient is also the Dropps laundry pacs I reviewed before.) In my new effort to simplify things around the house, I would buy it again, just to keep on hand for when I don’t feel like making any of my own detergent. Plus, the price is much cheaper than most of the other “natural” detergents out there.

RATING: 4  Smart!* – Works well,  good price, pretty good ingredients.

You can find this product at a discount from Walgreens
