Even though Serena Williams lost her last major final at Wimbledon, there are no doubts that she is one of the best tennis players of all time-and her Grand Slam record proves it! She has played in 32 finals overall, and won an incredible 23 of them. She's also the oldest female player to win a Grand Slam which was at the Australian Open in 2017 - when she was 35 AND pregnant with her daughter Olympia. And recently at Wimbledon, she became the oldest female player to play in a Slam final at age 37!
Who Has Won The Most Grand Slams In Tennis?
The all-time record for most women's Grand Slam titles goes to Australian player, Margaret Court, who won 24 of them during her career in the 1960s and '70s. Thirteen of those titles were won before Grand Slams were open to both professional players and amateurs, which means that Serena's 23 slam victories give her the record for the most wins in the Open Era. In third place is Steffi Graf, with an impressive 22 wins.
On the men's side, Roger Federer's 20 titles hold the current record. Rafael Nadal has the second-most Grand Slams, with 18, followed by Novak Djokovic's 16.
Now, at 37, Serena will have another shot at tying the all-time Grand Slam record at the US Open, with her first match being tonight at 6 pm ET, against Maria Sharapova, and I'm wishing her the best of luck!
