Offensive and Defensive Success-rates for Habs D-men in the Defensive-zone

By Kicks @Chrisboucher73

Using my system to track both puck-possession and defensive-events allows us to compare defensmen based on their ability to remove possession, as well as their ability to safely move the puck out of the defensive-zone.
DEFENSIVE-EVENTS
This graph shows the number of successful, as well as the number of failed defensive-touches in the defensive-zone each Habs defenseman has produced per-minute played. Only even-strength events are included.
The higher the player's bubble appears, the more FAILED defensive-touches they have contributed per-minute, while the further to the right the bubble appears, the more SUCCESSFUL defensive-touches they have contributed. The number next to each player's name shows their success-rate when attempting to remove possession from the opposition in the defensive-zone.
Defensive-events used in this calculation include; blocked shots, blocked passes, stick-checks, and body-checks. An event is deemed successful when the opposition team loses possession, and is judged as FAILED when the other team maintains possession. It's important to note that Montreal does not have to acquire possession for the event to be successful, the player only needs to have broken the opposition's cycle of possession; thereby creating a loose-puck.
  • Douglas Murray has produced the most successful defensive-touches in the defensive-zone per-minute, while also producing the third-most FAILED d-touches. He has the fourth-best defensive success-rate.
  • Josh Gorges has produced the third-most successful defensive-touches, while also contributing the third-fewest FAILED defensive-touches. He has the second-best defensive success-rate.
  • Nathan Beaulieu has produced the second-most successful defensive-events, but has also produced the most FAILED defensive-touches. He has the second-lowest defensive success-rate, but has contributed an improved defensive-rate of 65.8% since his return from Hamilton
  • Francis Bouillon has produced the fifth-most successful defensive-touches, while also contributing the fewest FAILED d-touches. He has the top defensive success-rate among current Habs d-men.
  • Alexei Emelin has produced the second fewest successful defensive-touches in the d-zone, while also contributing the second-most FAILED touches. He has the lowest defensive success-rate in the defensive-zone among Montreal d-men.
  • PK Subban has produced the fewest successful defensive-touches, as well as the sixth-fewest FAILED touches. Only Beaulieu and Emelin have a lower defensive success-rate than Subban.
  • Andrei Markov has produced both the fourth-most successful and failed defensive-touches per-minute. Markov once had the top defensive success-rate among Habs d-men, but now has the third-best rating.

EVENTS WITH POSSESSION IN THE DEFENSIVE-ZONE
This graph shows the number of successful plays with puck possession each Habs defensman has produced per-minute played. Again, only even-strength events are included.
The higher the player's bubble appears, the more FAILED offensive-touches (plays with possession) they have contributed per-minute, while the further to the right the bubble appears, the more SUCCESSFUL offensive-touches they have contributed. The number next to each player's name shows their success-rate when attempting to maintain puck-possession in the defensive-zone.
  • Douglas Murray has produced the fewest successful offensive-touches in the defensive-zone per-minute, while also producing the third-most FAILED o-touches. He has the second-lowest puck-possession success-rate.
  • Josh Gorges has produced the third-most successful offensive-touches, while also contributing the fewest FAILED offensive-touches. Expressed differently, Gorges has produced the fewest turnovers in the defensive-zone per-minute played.
  • Nathan Beaulieu has produced the second-most successful offensive-events, but has also produced the most FAILED offensive-touches. He has the lowest puck-possession success-rate, but has an improved rate of 70.0% since his return from Hamilton
  • Francis Bouillon has produced the second-fewest successful offensive-touches, while also contributing the second-fewest FAILED o-touches. He has the fifth-best puck-possession success-rate among current Habs d-men.
  • Alexei Emelin has produced the fifth-most successful offensive-touches in the d-zone, while also contributing the fourth-most FAILED touches. Along with Markov, he has the third-best puck-possession success-rate in the defensive-zone.
  • PK Subban has produced the most successful offensive-touches, as well as the third-most FAILED touches. Only Gorges has a better puck-possession success-rate in the defensive-zone than Subban. (Gorges just passed him last game)
  • Andrei Markov has produced the fourth-most successful offensive-touches, and the third-most failed o-touches. Markov's defensive-zone puck-possession success-rate is equal to Emelin's, and places them third among Habs d-men.
