Dear Luke and Leia,
We flew off to Curacao for a fun visa run this weekend, planning to do some sight-seeing, snorkeling and food sampling and then fly back to Panama for another few months. But boy, were we in for a surprise as to what the weekend had in store for the two of us.
For water-sports enthusiasts the lagoon is available.
It all started out fantastic. Loaded with only a carry-on and a dive bag we checked in to our hotel, which had the tropical vibe we were hoping for. Here are some photos.

Visiting Willemstad
We quickly dropped off our stuff and headed into Curacao’s colorful capital city.
I have always wanted to see the harbor of Willemstad. I had seen other pictures of the town and it lived up to its vibrant reputation quite nicely.

So we walked around the town for a while, taking in the culture and enjoying the warm, friendly people. Found an open air market to stroll through and began to feel that something was just not right. Nana had a sore throat and I was feeling a bit run-down, but we figured it was just the excitement so we pushed on.

Purple is rarely seen on a building in other colorful cities, but not Willemstad, Curacao.
A floating bridge
One really cool thing was this unusual pontoon bridge that crossed from one side of the city to the other. The Queen Emma bridge actually moves when boats want to enter the harbor! We had to quickly cross because we would have been stuck on it until all the boats had cleared the area.

Run, run, run before getting stuck on the bridge. She just made it. The others had to wait.
We sat down for a drink and took in some local entertainment along the waterfront. Watching the sunset, we saw the colors become even more vivid as the sun’s light changed and waned. The buildings were lit up and cast a bounty of colors on the water.
Sun sets on Willemstad, changing the colors greatly.
After dinner, we headed back to the hotel for a good night’s sleep.

This is when the surprise took over. In the morning, Nana and I were both feeling rather sickly. That promptly ended our plans to visit more on the island. So we just sat around the pool and beach, went for short walks, and slept poolside.
Feeling sick, this Iguana visits our poolside rest.
We must have needed the rest because on the following day we felt much better. It was a shame that we had to board our plane to head back to home in Panama. Hope you guys enjoyed the pictures we were able to take. We must make a note to return for more time on Curacao. Miss you guys, take care.
Love,
Nana and Pap
