REVIEW
I read Odd Interlude as three separate short e-books on my Kobo but decided to review this Odd Thomas novella as a whole. Odd Thomas is one of my favorite fictional characters. I’ve read all the novels with the exception of Deeply Odd which I am about to start and the graphic novels. Koontz was one of my favorite writers for years. He fell from grace with the last three abysmal novels in his Frankenstein series. I might need to give him a second chance.
I thought Odd Interlude was great. My interest in Odd Thomas was recently sparked again by the release of the movie which I loved. I read three short e-book’s fairly quickly. I found it easy to fall back into Odd’s world. Odd Interlude is set between Odd Hours where he meets mysterious Annamaria and the last novel I read, Odd Apocalypse. I had no idea this novella existed until Kobo recommended it to me. I would have liked to read it in the correct order before Odd Apocalypse.
In Odd Interlude, Koontz drops Oddie right into the middle of another nightmare, this one a lot darker than what has come before. Well before, Odd Apocalypse that is. The evil Odd and Annamaria deal with in Odd Interlude is a human / alien hybrid, a monster with immense powers. I love the direction Koontz took Odd in. A lot happens in Odd Interlude and I was left with the impression this novella was a lot longer. I loved the freaky alien shit. Odd Interlude is very fast paced and I raced through part 1, 2 and 3. Kobo did rip me off a bit. I paid 99p for each part and then saw them selling the whole volume for £1.99. I read each part one after another so it was like reading the whole volume.
Odd Interlude fits the gap nicely between Odd Hours and Odd Apocalypse. The novella picks up with Odd and the mysterious Annamaria leaving Magic Beach at the end of Odd Hours and ends with them heading towards Roseland for Odd Apocalypse. I just bought Deeply Odd on my Kobo so it was good to get back on board with Odd before I read a full length novel. Odd Interlude is a great little novella and I really enjoyed myself.
