International Internet Day (1969)
- The first connection on what would become the Internet was made on this day in 1969 when bits of data flowed between computers at UCLA and the Stanford Research Institute. This was the beginning of ARPANET, the precursor to the Internet developed by the Department of Defense. By the end of 1969, four sites were connected: UCLA, the Stanford Research Institute, the University of California at Santa Barbara and the University of Utah.
World Psoriasis Day
- To raise awareness of psoriasis and to give these people the attention and consideration they deserve. There are more than 125 million people with psoriasis/psoriatic arthritis in the world. Psoriasis is a severe chronic inflammatory disease affecting all ages, genders, races, and ethnicities.
Stock Market Crash of 1929

National Organization of Women Founded (1966)
- The National Organization for Women (NOW) is the largest feminist organization in the United States. It was founded in 1966 and has a membership of 500,000 contributing members and 5,987 chapters in 47 U.S. states (exceptions are Hawaii, North Dakota, and Maine) and the District of Columbia.
National Hermit Day
- It's a quiet day to spend quietly in seclusion, all by yourself. For some people, being a recluse is a way of life. They spend every day by themselves, in peaceful seclusion. For many of us who lead an increasingly busy lifestyle, the idea of being a Hermit for a Day, of getting away from it all, even if for just one day, is very appealing.
National Oatmeal Day
- a good day to go to the store and stock up on some oats. Besides being very filling and a versatile food, it can be a great way to start off the day. It's good for you too (it can help lower bad cholesterol). A nice bowl of oatmeal on a cold morning (or night) can be a wonderful thing.
