By Pamelascott

Kady, Ezra, Hanna and Nik narrowly escaped with their lives from the attacks on Heimdall station and now find themselves crammed with 2,000 refugees on the container ship, Mao. With the jump station destroyed and their resources scarce, the only option is to return to Kerenza-but who knows what they'll find seven months after the invasion?

Meanwhile, Kady's cousin, Asha, survived the initial BeiTech assault and has joined Kerenza's ragtag underground resistance. When Rhys-an old flame from Asha's past-reappears on Kerenza, the two find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict. With time running out, a final battle will be waged on land and in space, heroes will fall, and hearts will be broken.

I loved the first two Illuminae Files so the chances are pretty high that I would love the conclusion as well. And I did. This draws together all the narrative threads (confusing at times) of the other two volumes into one epic conclusion. There is a massive battle towards the end of this book. The battle is on an epic scale with characters I've grown to love and hate on opposite sides, caught in the middle of utter carnage. I actually enjoyed this part of the book the most. I wanted more epic battles and death! One of the most interesting aspects of every book has been the role of the AI, Aiden, both a mass murderer and at certain times a saviour. Aiden's role is equally blurry in this final volume. I felt sympathy for Aiden which I'm sure is weird, but I felt it nevertheless. As ever, I absolutely loved the way Obsidio is structured, the same as the other books via a series of documents such as linked files from communication devices, surveillance report and even sketches that gradually reveal what's going on.
