A lot of not only sci-fi but also post-apocalyptic movies are flooding in lately. Here are two of those. One is the new Tom Cruise movie from Universal Pictures. Joseph Kosinski’s sci-fi epic “Oblivion”.
The story is set on a scorched Earth with Tom as one of the last men on the planet whose task is repairing drones that retrieve vital resources. The populous now lives in the giant cities that orbit in the clouds.
The second movie is M. Night Shyamalan’s “After Earth”.
In AE, humanity abandoned Earth over a millennia ago and our planet reverted to an almost primordial jungle state. Will Smith as a celebrated General crash lands on Earth and he, with his estranged son (Jaden Smith) starts looking for their rescue beacon.
Only missing link in this “Scorched Earth” rivalry is Neill Blomkamp’s “Elysium”. When that one shows its head, we’ll let you know.
