NY Day 1 // Alice and Trixie Showroom

By Styleofsam @styleofsam
Hello!  Yes, I'm still alive.  Although a whole week has past, it flew by like a New York minute.  My four FASHION fairy godmothers {Ashley, Bethany, Jen, and Nini} made it a week to remember!  It was a fairytale for me!  Mr. S told me to take advantage of the time since a wee one should be headed our way, and I DID!!  IFB Conference, roomies, showrooms, blogger events, and fashion shows… What more can a gal ask for?!  As promised, I'm doing a recap of all the events.NY Day 1 // Alice and Trixie ShowroomFirst, I arrived in NY and headed to The James Hotel to wait for my roomies, Ashley and Bethany.  That hotel is so posh {and I called it fabulosity} - check out my Vine video showing off the lobby!  Gorgeous yes?!  When the crew arrived, I met Dominique and later Elizabeth, our next door hotel neighbors.  Bethany scheduled an Alice and Trixie showroom for us, so we dashed to the garment district in our yellow fairytaxi {yes, i made up that word}!  What a fabulous tour!  We saw the designers {couldn't take pics because they had the Fall moodboards up and it's hush hush}, the pattern maker, the seamstresses, and the ready-to-send area.  The printing area {where the silks are stamped with the patterns} is housed in a different building down the street.  And I just found out they have posted an album of our visit on their facebook page HERE!!
Just a little about Alice and Trixie:
  • Established in 1997 by designer Angela Taylor George
  • The company is named after two female heroines from the 50s sitcom, The Honeymooners
  • They are well known for brightly hued and patterned silks and sold in major retailers all over the world, including Neiman Marcus, Saks, and Bloomingdales
  • Every step from idea to fabrication, sewing and shipping, is done in New York
HERE is my vine video highlighting the showroom, lobby, and archives of all their patterns.  Everything was so bright that you couldn't help but be happy!NY Day 1 // Alice and Trixie ShowroomDon't you love the waiting area?  I'm dying over that rug!  Those pillows are made with the leftover fabrics.  Psst, they may start selling those!  Definitely need a colorful accent pillow for my house.
And we saw rows and rows of garments ready to head out to the retail sites.  Still dreaming about all the prints.  That's a preview of the upcoming summer collection.
Here's where the magic happens!  They have a pattern maker in house and right next to him are the sewers who create the sample pieces for approval.NY Day 1 // Alice and Trixie ShowroomThe upcoming summer collection is FABULOUS!!  The colors, the prints, the cuts... everything was gorgeous!  It was really hard to pick a favorite - I have 6 faves from the collection even though I showed you 2!
We ended the tour with goodie bags!  As if that weren't enough, they let us choose an item from their previous collection!  Happy and happier!  I'll be posting looks in the future!
Stayed tuned for my IFB Conference recap!  Happy Hump Day!
