Story: Nowhere starts when we learn that the world has started to fall to war. Mia (Castillo) and Nico (Novas) are joining another group of refugees trying to escape for a better life inside a maritime container. However, the journey to the docks is filled with peril and shows the ruthless nature of the regime taking over, killing women and children.
This also sees Mia and Nico get separated and Mia being left alone in her container after a massacre by the soldier. Alone and forced to continue the journey, Mia finds herself dealing with a new threat when the container is lost at sea. As she floats aimlessly in the ocean. With her baby on the way, Mia must figure out how to survive her situation or face a watery grave with her newborn baby.
Verdict on Nowhere
Nowhere is a thriller following a woman who is looking to escape a war-torn country being smuggled in a maritime container. However, the journey sees her separated from her husband and forced to figure out how to survive. All while her newborn baby and her find themselves lost in the ocean inside the container.
This ends up becoming a brilliant survival thriller using the idea to show how desperate families and people can become for a safe life. While the bigger picture of just how bad the behavior of the regime has become on a global side of things doesn’t get shown enough. However, the story of Mia trying to survive the situation shows a host of different problems she must solve. There is a massive feeling of watching ‘Castaway’ in how the problems are solved. Anna Castillo is fantastic in the leading role needing to carry the film with her performance.
Where to Watch: Nowhere is available on Netflix now.
Final Thoughts – Nowhere is an excellent edge-of-the-seat survival thriller.
