The first episode of Doctor Who premiered on British TV with William Hartnell as the first Doctor on November 23, 1963. Traveling through time and space in the TARDIS (an acronym for Time and Relative Dimensions in Space), the Doctor and his companions found themselves in mortal combat with creatures such as the Daleks.

National Cashew Day
- Celebrates the nut and the tree that produces the nut. The cashew is a popular nut during the holiday season. So celebrate this holiday by enjoying in the taste of cashews.
Life Magazine Debuts (1936)
- The illustrated magazine Life debuted on this day in 1936. The first cover featured a dramatic photograph by Margaret Bourke-White of Fort Peck Dam.
Fibonacci Day
- Fibonacci numbers abound in nature. Cutting a bell pepper crosswise reveals 3 chambers. An apple has a 5 point-star cross-section, and a lemon has an 8-chambered cross-section. A daisy almost always has 13, 21, or 34 petals. The next time that the North American date format will have consecutive Fibonacci numbers will be May 8, 2013.
Color Photos Birthday (1863)
- Patent granted for a process of making color photographs
Eat a Cranberry Day
- Because of the vitamin C content of cranberries, captains of the early sailing ships supplied their sailors with cranberries to prevent scurvy.
National Military Families Recognition Day
- Acknowledging the sacrifices that military families have made on behalf of the Nation and designating November 23 as National Military Families Recognition Day.
Pencil Sharpener Birthday (1897)
- John Lee Love of Fall River, Massachusetts designed the Love Pencil Sharpener in 1897. The history of the pencil sharpener starts with Love's design, which was originally intended for use by artists. Love patented the design for his pencil sharpeners on November 23, 1897. He started a revolution that would lead to the invention of mechanical pencil sharpeners and electric pencil sharpeners.
