The answer to this question in any context is probably yes
- Well, I was wrong, the next episode happened and Mazuurek is still alive. Except I wasn’t WRONG wrong, because all I really expected was for him to not last very long after making it back to Slaine and carrying out his mission and stuff. He hasn’t had the chance to do that yet – in fact, he barely appeared in this episode at all – so there’s still plenty of room for my prediction to come true I guess. Also, I find it kind of amusing how he’s just out there in the open desert in broad daylight and there’s no indication that anyone is even looking for him. A very important prisoner of war just disappeared – possibly the only high-ranking Martian they’ve had since Asseylum – and just a few days later, nobody but Inko seems to care.
- Speaking of that, the whole “Inko saw Inaho and Rayet help him escape” subplot was a thing in this episode, and… it might have been resolved already?? Inaho apologized near the end and said he “didn’t want to get her involved”, and I couldn’t really tell what he was referring to. Did he explain the situation to her offscreen? Did he just already know that she had seen him because he’s fucking Inaho and is probably omniscient at this point? Either way, if all the drama was just cleared up here, that’s kind of disappointing. I expected something to actually come out of this subplot, and if this episode is all there was to it, that makes it seem pretty pointless.
In case it wasn’t clear, I’m getting increasingly desperate to meet the screenshot quota
- Also, I don’t know if this was supposed to be obvious or not, but I don’t think Inko was actually concerned about Inaho having randomly betrayed them or something – rather, it was just getting to her that he didn’t trust her or consider her important enough to be let in on the plan. He and Rayet seem to be becoming sort of a team now, which is a development I actually really like – and I think (hope) they’re not going in a romantic direction with it, but I can see why it might be enough to make Inko a bit jealous too.
- In other news, they finally beat that one guy with glasses I guess. Didn’t he appear as early as like the first or second episode? Have all the counts in this season appeared before, and I just didn’t notice?? Not that I really care anyway, because all of these guys are such one-dimensional characters. Their mechs (at least the actually interesting ones) are the only remotely memorable things about them. Aside from Cruhteo, Saazbaum, and Maazurek, they’re pretty much all the same person.
At least this one doesn’t require commentary
- So uh… yeah, I still have no goddamn idea what Slaine is doing. At this point I’m not really sure he does, either. Now he’s decided to… marry Lemrina disguised as Asseylum and start a new kingdom? What?? What was even the point of trying to gain the respect of the Vers Empire if he’s just going to break away from them already? Is he hoping a bunch of the nobles will immediately join his new government or something? I guess we’ll just have to wait to find out where the hell the story is going with this. At least the real Asseylum is awake now though, and Slaine has pretty much dug his hole as deep as he possibly can, so I can’t wait to see her reaction when she finds out what’s been going on over the last year and a half or so.
