Dandy, QT, and Meow are back, baby!
In the last episode of Season 1 of Space Dandy, QT fell in love with a coffee maker and helped stop a machine revolt on humanity.
Summary of Space Dandy Season 2 Episode 1
- Dandy and his crew try to dupe Scarlett into thinking a cow is an undiscovered alien, to which she suggests they find different jobs. On the Aloha Oe, Dandy discovers a loose hair on his head. When he tugs the hair, Dandy, QT, and Meow are all transported to an alternate dimension where they meet themselves. After tugging more threads, they discover a multitude of other universes. They then discover that the hairs are cosmic threads. Soon, they arrive at their own universe, but all the other Dandys are also there. After a while, the universe starts to become littered with inconsistencies. They figure the only way to get everything back to normal is to burn the cosmic strings. When they do, everything reverts back to normal.
My Take
- Do you even have the slightest clue as to how happy I am that Space Dandy is back? I just hope you’re as happy as I am. To keep it short, I’ll just say that Space Dandy was one of the most enjoyable shows I got to watch on a weekly basis. It was crazy, stupid, and funny. Judging from this first episode, season 2 will continue that fine tradition perfectly.
Pretty boy Dandy is no match for slob Dandy!
- The entire focus of this episode was in how Dandy and his crew accidentally kept on pulling on cosmic threads, ultimately causing them to teleport in and out of alternate dimensions, thus meeting vast numbers of alternate versions of themselves. If that sounds stupid to you, then good news, you’re officially not crazy. However, when a show that’s trying to be as ridiculous and stupid as Space Dandy succeeds in that goal, it succeeds big time.
- It was pretty neat to see Dandy and the crew become the responsible ones when all of the Dandys ended up in their universe. When every Dandy eventually found themselves onboard the Aloha Oe, Dandy, Meow, and QT became the reasonable ones in an ocean of Dandy.
- Other than the fantastically absurd plot, my favorite thing about this episode would have to be all of the Dandys that we see. They’re all just so creative. They’re not all just reskins of Dandy, and they’re not all alien hunters. We have space truckin’ Dandy, Dragon Ball Dandy, pretty boy Dandy, female Dandy, and of course Emo Dandy.
Emo Dandy needs to become a thing. Twitter has demanded it happen
- That highlights one of my favorite aspects of this whole series; nothing about it is lazy. You can look at every single frame and see lush backgrounds full of diverse life and characters. No two frames look the same, and everywhere you look, there’s something new to see. Thankfully, there weren’t any updates to the aesthetics of the show, so it still has a vibrant color scheme of bright colors that stand out. Also, the music is the exact same from season 1, right down to the opening and ending themes. I like this because it helps the second season stay as familiar as possible.
Gives new meaning to the term “space truckin’”
- The last minute or so of the episode almost had me in tears from laughing so hard. Emo Dandy being inserted into the opening? My goodness, that was unexpected and downright hilarious. The fact that there was a Dandy whose life was so miserable by the antics of his versions of QT and Meow was amazing. It sort of makes me feel that Dandy, Meow, and QT don’t actually have it so bad anymore. Sure, they could be the best space truckers in a different universe, but they could also be much more unbearable to each other than they already are.
- I have to say that this is easily the funniest episode in both seasons so far. Maybe that’s just because it’s the craziest. But hey, I like crazy if it’s done like this. I just hope that this episode hasn’t opened the floodgates of Dandys, making them all recurring characters. Now that would be overdoing it!
Space Dandy: Generation X coming soon
- “I Can’t Be the Only One, Baby” kicked off the second season of Space Dandy perfectly. It’s easily the craziest episode in the entire series, and right now, my second favorite episode, right behind “A Merry Companion Is a Wagon in Space, Baby”. If the whole season is full of creative, bizarre stuff like we saw here, then all I can say is that we’re in for a big treat.
