- Well what could top the last episode? A lot. A hell of a lot. Of course we weren’t supposed to expect anything more from what happened since we’d reached the three-quarter stage, and now in these remaining 4 or 5 episodes, we’ll just have to hope that those episodes will have the same level of impact, drama and such as what’s been happening so far.
- Watching this episode has made me think that this whole controversial and crazy audition idea is going to become some kind of Catch-22. People will be chosen for their quality in playing, leaving the remaining un-chosen upset, angry, envious, jealous, or all of the above. Not only that but it’ll most likely lead to the chosen ones to feel annoyed with themselves because the fellow band members who they grew to play and practice with will end up looking down at them. And so it’s extremely fascinating how, over the last couple of episodes (and possibly even this episode alone) how we’ve been made to sympathize and feel for all those people who didn’t make the cut.
- Oh come on, we all knew that Reina would win the trumpet solo, but it seriously did break my tiny little heart on how Kaori (head of trumpet department) had tried and tried over her three years of being at the school and even despite that, a mere first-year beats her with flying colors. Of course Reina won’t care because she’s like that. Hazuki didn’t make it either, but I wasn’t really surprised; she’d never touched a brass instrument before so what do you expect? And it was a shame Kumiko’s fellow euphonium player Natsuki didn’t make the cut either. Then again, if you put it one way, this whole exercise of selecting the better players no matter what their feelings and emotions are some kind of test to the band members on how a professional band is actually about. Aoi probably knew this, and so that was possibly another reason why she decided to quit; university places are more important to some, and being a professional musician isn’t something everyone in the band wants to do.
- I can’t really think of much else, to be honest. This episode has certainly shown us that we are to expect a lot more drama, tears and heartbreak. And maybe some more Reina/Kumiko interaction. But there’s no way they can fit the below in 4 or 5 episodes:
1. The intense practice for the chosen band members.
2. The envy, jealousy and hatred that has, or will soon be, now come on by those who weren’t picked.
3. The comical (kind of) activity between Kumiko, Hazuki and Midori resulting in one of them approaching the very moronic Shuuichi and asking him out.
4. The more balanced activity between Haruka, Asuka and Kaori resulting in one bursting into even more tears, one being a total nutcase yuri girl, and the other just…not doing much.
5. Reina flirting with Kumiko some more resulting in Kumiko finally responding.
I hate exams too.
- A second season has to come, because there’s no way that we could be left hanging on the edge of our seats by the end of episode 12 or 13 or whenever.
