With a nickname like that, how could he be okay?
- Last week, Tada started to voice his empathy for Kaga because of how she isolates herself. Also, Tada and Kaga both try to look for clubs to join.
- Summary of Episode 3: In their quest to join a club, Tada and Kaga both decide to go on an outing offered by one of the clubs they got roped into in the previous episode. Before the outing, they come across “2D”, who is the student Tada met at the Tea Club’s party. Once they all arrive at the building they will be staying at for the next three days, Tada, 2D, and Kaga quickly discover that the club they’ve expressed interest in is actually a cult. Tada then uses his charisma to convince the cultists to let everyone go, but at the cost of letting him stay behind. This plan works until Kaga stays with Tada because she felt bad for him. The two of them eventually escape and run off into the woods while being pursued but the cultists. Once they lose the cultists, Tada and Kaga then rest and talk, and Tada reveals that he, in fact, does suffer from amnesia. As he’s finishing poening up to Kaga about how his amnesia has affected him, the cultists catch up to them. Just then, Linda shows up in the middle of the woods.
Hmm, what’s with all the “neo-whatever”‘s I’ve been running into lately?
- My Take: Well, I can say I wasn’t expecting to see a crazy cult pop up in Golden Time…but it’s always nice to be surprised! I could tell right from the beginning when the club members, all dressed in the same drab, were part of a cult and this retreat was a plot to brainwash the potential pledges. Although, yes, I saw it coming from the start of the episode, that didn’t make it any less interesting. I don’t know, I sort of hope we see these guys again in the future. It would make an interesting sub-plot.

I don’t know, guys. I think something’s not quite right here
- Please tell me that 2D is going to be a regular character! I don’t know why, but I want this guy to be in the future of this show. Maybe I just think he’ll offer the most unique perspective to what is going on around him.
- Tada makes the noble move to trick the cultists into freeing everybody, at the cost of his own freedom. This shows why I’ve become so fond of this character; he’s always looking out for people who he doesn’t have a strong relationship with. Gestures like this show just how genuine of a character he is. What’s even more telling is how Kaga decides to stay with Tada because she felt bad for his sacrifices. That also tells us a lot about how Kaga has grown as a character over the first three episodes. At first, she didn’t do anything without thinking of Yanagisawa, but now, she tries to make new friends and have new experiences. It’s almost as if she is a genuine, sheltered first-year student who finally gets to have a taste of the real world. I find that to be very interesting, and I love it.

My heart will always belong to Saturn. I’m sorry
- Plot twist! Turns out Tada suffers from amnesia, and cannot remember anything that has happened to him before his accident. This…is actually a legitimate twist. Granted, we haven’t known anything about his past, but it’s like that for a lot of the characters here. First off, we only know the past of Kaga and Yanagisawa, and we only know of their pasts because it’s a crucial element to the story. So we didn’t really need to know anybody else’s past. Second, it reminds me of how going to a university would be in real life. When you go to a new school in a new city, you don’t have to be the old you. Most people would reinvent themselves a little bit. You can be a “new you”, and I just assumed that Tada was trying to do just that. But now that we know that he literally has no choice but to be a new person…it’s just a good twist.
- After Tada opened up about his amnesia, that whole monolog was so emotional. Great writing.
- Tada is once again saved by Linda. Freaky. Just what is it with these two?

Club. Cult. It’s just so easy to confuse the two
- The first three episodes of this anime really established the premise and the characters very well. Now that basic character development is out of the way, let’s just hope the direction that is taken for the rest of the season is on par with the quality we’ve already seen. All of this potential can’t go to waste!
