Notes of Glasslip Episode 10

“…and no, you can’t have her!!”

Last week on Glasslip, the gang-of-five have begun rebuilding their friendships and forgetting any bad words said. Touko is starting to get frustrated by her visions and is starting to think if having this ‘gift’ is beneficial to her or not. Kakeru, meanwhile, has lost his ability to hear the future, but Touko gives him the cold shoulder when he pays her a visit. Then Sachi invites Touko and Hiro to come to the library/art gallery after dark where, out of nowhere, she confesses to Touko.

Summary of Glasslip Episode 10

  • Sachi explains to Touko and Hiro that her confession was meant for both of them, and that she wants to remain close friends with them both regardless of what happens. Yukinari comes back from his trip and notices Yanagi doing the run he normally does, much to his happiness. Kakeru’s parents later explain to Touko about how Kakeru always feels so isolated from society, which influences her to confront him and properly explain the vision she had of a snowy landscape and of them kissing.

My Take

  • Episode 10, and things are already starting to wrap up. It’s turned less and less of a soap opera and more and more into story that, relatively has an ending people are comfortable are with. Last week I was seriously worried about Sachi and whether Touko would turn her down, but she explained the entire confession and my heart just sighed in relief. Sachi, being over-sensitive to emotions, has proved herself to be the most level-headed person of the entire show. I may be biased on that because she has those red half-rimmed glasses that cute clever schoolgirls have though.

  • And soppy Yukinari’s back in town too. I’d actually hoped that his homecoming would bring about some kind of big reaction: Yanagi falling into his arms, or him getting better at running, or something much more spectacular, but no. All we got is a “Hi honey, I’m home” scene that was meant to be tender but turned out to be as wet as anything. Made me feel a little comfortable to watch too. I mean Yanagi did say that she wanted a equal friendly relationship with Yukinari and Touko, but it’s plain obvious that she has great big massive hearts in her great big massive eyes.

  • But I wish I could say more about Touko though. She’s starting to get a grip now. Finally. After so long of her bouncing around the walls. Or is she? Now she knows much more about the kind of person Kakeru is, she’s not really acting that different in terms of her wanting him badly. Everyone already knows these two are going to be together, watching ‘fragments of the future’ (which I still don’t quite know about) for eternity. But now it’s dawned on me that P.A Works ought to learn their lesson: adapt decent stuff instead of create original stories. I know often is the case that most of their adaptations turn out to be indescribably dire, but maybe, just maybe, P.A Works might see the light.
  • And so by the end of the show, everyone will be in the relationship they want to be. Touko will be with Kakeru, Yanagi will be with Yukinari, Sachi will be with Hiro, and Jonathan will be on his own. Unless he’s made into stew, that is…But now I’m starting to appreciate those crazy/odd/hilarious moments in the show: that Sachi threat to Kakeru, that Yanagi slap, the creepy old man stare at the hospital Yanagi sprained her ankle, that “what!?!?!?” look from Hiro last week after Sachi’s confession, and now Kakeru’s parents blaming themselves over how Kakeru has turned out to be the oddball he’s become. Here’s hoping, with 3 more episodes to go, that more silly random moments will happen. I love you too, P.A Works.

I’m British, and live about an hour outside of London. My first encounter in anime was with bargain bin DVDs at my local rental store, but it was only until around another 5 years later when anime took over me properly...so to speak. I used to turn to fantasy shows a lot (including magical girl shows) but now I’m more of a sucker for school and slice-of-life shows. Don’t even turn to me when it comes to mecha; can’t stand it. I’m also a Final Fantasy 14 addict. And I’m allergic to mushrooms.
