Gatchaman Crowds Episode 11

And you won’t have any with that attitude!

  • Last week, the Neo-Hundred started attacking the city, and Hajime, Paiman, Joe, Sugane, and Utsu-tsu joined together to fight them back and protect the city.
  • Summary: In the first half of this episode, all of the members of the Gatchaman team monolog about Hajime. They talk about how she, although sometimes annoying, has helped bring a certain vigor to the team that was lacking previously. All of the monologues are different in their own way, but they all share the central theme of “Hajime has helped me become a better person”. In the second half of the episode, we pick up where episode 10 left off with the team fighting the Neo-Hundred. Only now, Rui has been able to regain access to GALAX, and Katze has finally been recognized by X. As that’s going on, we see the prime minister, who is safely in the Gatchaman hideout, try his hand at livestreaming what he plans to do about the situation. As that inevitably fails, he decided the best course of action is to get everyone in the city on GALAX. However, that plan seems to backfire when Katze takes the form of the prime minister and gives everyone on GALAX the ability to use CROWDS.

Nice loading screen, I’m sure Paiman agrees

  • My Take: Here we have it, folks: the one episode in this excellent series so far in which I would say was sub-par. It had nothing to do with what happened in the episode, but more what didn’t happen in the episode. Because the first half of the episode was a compilation of monologues, we only really got half an episode worth of new material, which was sort of a bummer!
  • The compilation of monologues by each of the Gatchaman (put to footage we’ve already seen, mind you) was… interesting? Yeah, it was interesting. Some of the monologues were pretty touching at times, and I did enjoy them for that. However, I felt that they distracted from the flow of the story a little bit. Look at it this way: imagine waiting until the entire series has aired until you watch Gatchaman Crowds, then watching the entire series in a week or so. Because you’ve seen the episodes so close to each other, a series of monologues like this near the end sort of takes you out of the action. Basically, the monologues were a neat concept, but they weren’t entirely necessary.
  • Positively, the second half of this episode was a great continuation of the events that happened last week. We’ve reached the point where all the members are having to use their own special abilities and work together like a true team, which is the most rewarding part of the series right now.

I’m so sick of these two-faced politicians!

  • Katze is just proving time and time again to be a fairly great villain. I never know what this guy is going to do! We all know that Katze wants to destroy the world by letting it “self-destruct”, so to say. But the outlandish ways Katze goes about doing that are amazing. I just can’t wait to see Katze get defeated, and I know O.D will have something to do with it.
  • Rui regains control of GALAX. Let’s just hope that he’s learned something from the time he lost it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he messes everything up next week. I love how he’s such a flawed character, and his flaws are coming out more and more as the series progresses. One aspect to his character in which I thought would be explained by now is why he’s crossdressing. I hove nothing against crossdressing at all, I would just love to have some sort of explanation…
  • The ending to this episode was pretty confusing. It turns out Katze got rejected by X, then somehow morphed into the prime minister? When did that happen? If that were to be what happened (with the prime minister on the car giving the orders really being Katze), then was Katze the prime minister all along? Was he the one recording the video with the Gatchaman earlier in the episode? If so, how was Katze controlling Rui’s body for that while? ARGH, it makes no sense!

This would have been more effective

  • Wow, I can’t believe that we only have one episode to go now. I’ll be sad to see this show go… but I’ll feel a little better if the payoff is good! I can’t wait to see how this series will end!
