Marry me
- In this week’s Durarara, things are a little different in the district of Ikbukuro, as we get to see a little more of the cast we know, but the focus shifts more towards three new characters, two of which are the younger twin sisters of Izaya, Mairu and Kururi, and a new character named Aoba Kuronuma. All three of these characters will obviously play a bigger role in the future, but this episode sort of set up their characters a bit. For starters, Mairu sets herself up as an outgoing person who is quite maniacal, which I like. On the contrast, her twin sister Kururi is much more shy. Aoba is set up as a member of the Dollars, as he approaches Ryuugamine and flat-out tells him he’s a member. Obviously there’s more to all of these characters.
- As with the first season, this season is setting up a plethora of plots. First, we had the plot of Celty becoming a celebrity (which isn’t really fleshed out any more in this episode, which is fine), but at least we know why she’s being hunted down with a 10 million yen price tag on her head. Second, we have Aoba’s fascination with Ryuugamine. These characters are obviously going to be spending much more time together, so I’ll be interested to see where that goes. Third, we have the Orihara twins, who seem to have a fascination with Celty. Fourth, we have Shinra and his parents. Fifth, we have whatever Shizou’s going to be doing in this season. I don’t care what he does, because it’s guaranteed to be completely badass.
Cat’s out of the bag now
- Out of all the plots, the ones centering around the new characters interest me the most. That’s because I’m a sucker for characters, and since I already know a good deal about the characters from season 1, it’ll be nice to get introduced to some new characters who, no doubt, have more to their back stories than they’re letting on. Well… that, and anything Shizou will be doing (seriously! He’s such a badass!). The way the first episode set it up, we might get to know more about him and his brother, which was the one area that didn’t seem to get a lot of attention in the first season. Again, the more we know about new characters, the better in my opinion.
- Something that’s got me thinking is how we Kida hasn’t had much of a role yet. He was very essential to the events of the first season, but after that, I’m not sure exactly what can be done with his character. He’s obviously still an important character, but he hasn’t really done anything important yet. He was a character I liked to watch in the first season, so I’m just wondering how big of a role he’ll play here. I’m guessing his character won’t just be abandoned, but if it is, I’ll riot.
- There was no real mention of what I assumed was the main plot of the first episode, which was the serial killings going on. Perhaps it’s hinted at and I didn’t catch it, but I thought that it would surely be a looming importance in this episode. Then again, since this is a work that is done by Ryougo Narita, this kind of storytelling technique is to be expected. All I know is that the Russian sushi shop is going to play a role again, so I know that we’ll at least see some familiar places.

- It’s nice to see a continuation of the events in the first episode, even if they were just as convoluted as the events of the first episode. We got a little more information that connects to the old information, but a bunch more that we don’t know what to do with. It’s anybody’s guess at this point as to what’ll happen, but it looks like it’s shaping up to be pretty entertaining.
