Notes of Amagi Brilliant Park Episode 10 and 11

Stop!

Last time on Amagi Brilliant Park, tensions grow between the fairies, who are slowly getting tired of dancing and singing the same songs, so Latifa carefully devises a plan for them to bond, using the castle’s defense systems. Using elaborate tasks involving singing, karaoke, and typing, Muse, Salama, Koboli and Sylphy all work as a team to escape so the defense system can be shut down.

Summary of Amagi Brilliant Park Episode 10 and 11

  • Seiya’s idea of opening the park during the evening pays off, bringing more visitors in as the summer break comes. When Latifa collapses and becomes bed-ridden, Isuzu decides to tell Seiya about the princess and how she, Isuzu and the other Maplelanders came to Earth. Discovering the harsh truth drives him even more to keep the park open, Moffle later gives him more of a reason to fight to keep the park open, while at the same time letting slip that she is his niece.
  • Later, in Episode 11, Toriken’s contacts come up trump when he discovers the local soccer team is hosting an friendly anniversary match on July 31st: the park’s deadline. Using the magic Latifa gave him, Seiya manages to persuade the soccer team owners to have the match in the stadium at the park, on the condition that the soccer fans use the main park gate. But when the stadium is packed and the game starts, the visitor count is still short.

My take

  • Two very engaging episodes here; an excellent way to get the show to reach its conclusion, although we all know that there’s still a lot of storyline to come in the last two episodes. Can’t have a KyoAni show without a happy ending, after all. We know what will happen: the park will stay open, Latifa will be fine and dandy, and Isuzu will gaze at Seiya from afar, with those empty eyes of hers that glisten every now and then, whilst Seiya himself will gaze longer at a mirror and know who he really loves…but then he knew that already. Latifa is more of a convincing girl to romance, but we all know that that could never ever happen.

Catch me when I fall, servant!

  • I was a bit skeptical about the background story of Latifa. I honestly would have mattered on how it was presented, whether it be actual animation or the dark watercolour illustrations they decided to use here. Hell just one long explanation without the additional animation would have done just fine for me. Of course watercolours or stained-glass give off that ‘royalty’ feel, and the bittersweet tale of how a wizard put a curse on Latifa will have touched many a heart string. And Seiya’s own over-acting to this tragic tale just made it all the more……strange. But at least we know one reason why Moffle was put on this world: to kick Seiya in the stomach and stop him from over-acting to the point of no return.
  • Oh well, at least we all know much more than we did. Personally all this Latifa stuff should have come sooner rather than later in the show, but here we are, on the edge of our seats, desperate for the park to reach its visitor count by July 31st, so the friendly vampire and his merry band of nameless guys in suits don’t build a car park for the love hotel and that she can be okay. I mean, she’s such a sweet little girl ‘n’ all. Perhaps that was the hidden agenda for this semi-filler episode: to get us hyped for the ending. Now we feel Seiya’s pain and determination so Latifa doesn’t suffer anymore, but while everyone else in the park feel the same way, episode 10 was the Seiya and Latifa show. Cute.
  • And now, they have a plan: the soccer match. Desperate but very effective. I mean, getting 50,000+ people in the park in the space of one day took only the genius of a self-confessed narcissist. Sooner or later, someone will tell him that, in some instances, he was wrong…and it’ll probably be Isuzu waving a musket gun at him. And I will be there when that happens. So, will this elaborate plan by the narcissist work? We all know it will. Will the friendly vampire eat his fancy words, his designer glasses, and his expensive suit, tie and shoes? We all know he will. But that’s okay. As I never read the light novels (they were never officially translated into English…yet), I still want to know every little detail of what happens at the end. I didn’t see Hyouka‘s ending one bit, but then this isn’t Hyouka, but it’s not a cutesy school rom-com like the vast majority of KyoAni shows are. But we are loving the show, aren’t we? It came 4th in my top 10 of 2014, and it’s been a while since KyoAni put out an adaptation as compelling as this.

  • So let’s all indulge some more and find out how the friendly vampire likes his words…rare, medium or well-done…
