The world’s first supersonic trainer, the T-38 flew in 1959, and the US Air Force obtained over 1,000 of them from 1961 to 1972. As of 2012, the T-38 has been in service for over 50 years with its original operator (USAF). This T-38 Talon was built in 1965 at Northrop Field in Hawthorne, California and transferred to NASA in 1973. NASA’s fleet of 24 T-38s is housed at Ellington Field outside NASA’s Johnson Space Center and used for pilot proficiency and mission support flights. Nikon D300 w/80-200mm.
