North East Theatre – April 2016

Posted on the 03 April 2016 by Caz @LetsGoToTheMov7

Considering I spend quite a lot of time at the Theatre (although not as much as I would like) I thought I would do a post each month highlighting the shows you can catch in the North East of England. I haven’t come across many blogs which feature shows in the North East and reviews of shows at either the Sunderland Empire or Theatre Royal in Newcastle come from the local papers/press.

Here is what you can catch around the North East in April!

Tues 5th-Sat 9th – Oliver! (Amateur Production, Tyne Theatre and Opera House)

Sat 9th –Patricia Routledge In Conversation With Edward Seckerson (Customs House/South Shields)

This is something I am looking to get a ticket for as I think it will be really interesting to see the legend that is Mrs Bucket from Keeping Up Appearances talking about her career etc!

Tues 5th-Sat 16th – Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty (Theatre Royal)

I am still yet to go and see a Ballet on stage and with this having a two week stint in Newcastle it might just be the chance I get to head along and take it all in?

Wed 6th-Sat 30th – Billy Elliot (Sunderland Empire)

I saw this in the West End a few years ago and it really is such a good show. Will be appreciated even more in the North East, so great it has eventually decided to do a UK Tour! Be warned though it does have very strong language, and has the ability to make you cry (yes that was me at the end).

Fri 15th-Sat 16th – Avenue Q (Tyne Theatre and Opera House)

I have seen this a couple of times now and it really is funny with the puppets who are nothing like the muppets! If you want a good laugh at the Theatre then this is certainly the show for you make sure you’re not easily offended though!

Mon 18th-Sat 23rd – The Father (Theatre Royal)

I am very excited that this play has embarked on a UK Tour not long after a critically acclaimed West End run and with the same lead actor. I have tickets for the Wednesday evening show. It is nominated for an Olivier Award this year for best new play.

Sat 30th April – The James Plays (Theatre Royal)

This sounds like a pretty epic day of watching three plays in a row from 11am! I’m guessing you would have to be a big Shakespeare fan to manage to do them all though.
