North American P-51D Mustang

@ Truckee, CA

July 2022

This P-51 “Primo Branco” warms up prior to a flight demonstration at the 2022 Truckee Tahoe Air Show & Family Festival.  The name Primo Branco is Italian for “Prime Mustang”.  Since this particular P-51 was never assigned to any squadron, she wears a livery inspired by “The Checkertail Clan” the 325th Fighter Group. Delivered in 1944, this Mustang is one of more than 8100 D-models produced, contributing to the total of 15,000 Mustangs built for the war.  It was probably rare for a wartime combat aircraft to be this polished.
