North American P-51D Mustang

@ Half Moon Bay, CA

April 2014

One of the three P-51’s on hand at the 2014 Pacific Coast Dream Machines show was this beautiful Mustang known as “Grim Reaper”.  She was delivered to the Royal Swedish Air Force in 1944 and made its way back to the US after spending time with the Dominican Air Force.  The real ‘Grim Reaper’ was piloted by Capt. Lowell Brueland who finished the war with 12.5 enemy aircraft destroyed, later serving in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. More than 8100 of the D-model were produced, contributing to the total of 15,000 Mustangs built for the war.  After World War II, the P-51 Mustang served in the air forces of over 55 countries.  Nikon D7000 w/80-400mm.
