North American B-25C Mitchell

@ Lancaster, CA

September 2006

From my first and only visit to the Milestones of Flight Museum. This tired B-25 Mitchell was delivered in 1942 and spent its short military life Stateside before being surplussed in 1945. Among a variety of ownership changes, she spent thee years in the Dominican Republic Air Force before being sold in January 1953 to the Hughes Tool Company. In 1953, she was converted into an executive transport, modifications included a toilet, sink, bed, storage in the bomb bay, extra fuel tank, and rear doors. After the modification, she was operated for a couple of years with the Hughes Company but was not flown after l955. In July 1974, she was transferred to Antelope Valley Aero Museum (now Milestones of Flight Air Museum) in Lancaster. After closure of the Museum in 2015, the Mitchell was sold to a new owner with hopes of restoring to airworthiness reflecting the VIP configuration. Panasonic FX30 photo.
