The final week of Nonfiction November, hosted by Hopewell’s Library of Life, are the books we added to our TBR this month. I’m happy to give a shout out to some of the bloggers who inspired me this month (and added to my already very long list of books to read).
Nature and Science:
I’m always looking for books about nature and environmental issues; otherwise I gravitate most towards memoirs. Here are a few books in this category that I added:
From Hopewell’s Library of Life, Last Child in the Woods by Richard Louv. This is about the need for children to be outside and exploring, something that resonates strongly with me.
From Shoe’s Seeds & Stories, Thirteen Ways to Smell a Tree by David George Haskell, about the power of nature (and particularly scent) to heal.
From Entering the Enchanted Castle, The Sixth Extinction by Elizabeth Kolbert. I loved her book Under a White Sky, and this is an important topic to understand.
History
From Silver Button Books, The Woman They Could Not Silence by Kate Moore, about a woman who had to fight for her freedom from a mental institution.
From Reading, Running, and Working from Home, Another Day in the Colony by Chelsea Watego, a collection of essays about the lives of Indigenous people in Australia.
Psychology and Memoir
From Books are My Favourite and Best, A Kind of Magic by Anna Spargo-Ryan, a memoir about anxiety and optimism.
And from my sister, Half Broke Horses, Jeanette Walls’ story of her grandmother’s life in Arizona.
