Noma, Rated The Best Restaurant In World, Is Closing Doors Soon

Popular Danish restaurant, Noma is shutting its doors next year in 2024. For the unversed, Noma, founded in 2003, has claimed the title of the world’s top restaurant several times. It opens seasonally and is famously difficult to make a reservation. But fret not, it is not forever! The iconic eatery in Copenhagen, Denmark, is expected to reopen in a new capacity. Chef and co-owner Rene Redzepi took to social media to make the announcement. “To continue being NOMA we must change. Noma as you know it is closing as we begin a new chapter. Noma 3.0,” Chef Redzepi informed.

As per the reports by multiple publications, the restaurant, which is cooking up Nordic cuisine for two decades, will have its last reservations in winter 2024. A news release from team Noma further reads that in 2025, the brand will transform itself into “a pioneering test kitchen” dedicated to “food innovation and the development of new flavours.”

A report in The Independent read, the decision to close the world-famous restaurant was made after Chef Redzepi realised that the fine dining industry needs to change in terms of gruelling long working hours and more. “We have to completely rethink the industry. This is simply too hard, and we have to work in a different way,” he said.

Earlier in 2016, Noma closed for re-branding and after two years (in 2018), it opened in its current incarnation.

Noma topped the list of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2021. The restaurant also has three Michelin stars and a Michelin Green star (awarded for practicing sustainability) to its name.
