Seattle-based singer-songwriter Noah Gundersen has announced details of new album ‘Lover’ (out on 23 August via Cooking Vinyl – pre-order HERE) and shared the video for emotional new single ‘Robin Williams’.
Written after watching a Robin Williams documentary and being inspired by the much-missed actor and comedian’s spirit and enormous talent, it’s a song that sums up how ‘Art is both everything and nothing. Living is the same’. In hushed tones and with an intimate yet dreamy soundscape, Noah tries to offer balanced advice amidst pangs of self-doubt that recall Elliott Smith: ‘It’s OK if you get anxious, just please don’t call the cops. There’s a couple things I’m sure of and a whole lot more I’m not’.
He then references Robin himself in a poignant observation about mortality: ‘But when I think of Robin Williams at the end of his rope It makes no difference what you’re making, the reaper makes the final joke’. As Noah attempts to make his way through the darkness by throwing himself into his art, he prays someone will hear him on the radio before then correcting himself with the final line: ‘And who the hell are we fooling? No one buys records any more…’
