No Seiyuu No Life: Yuuichi Nakamura

I don’t really know what I should ramble about this week. Justin said I should ramble about something in this space but absolutely nothing is going on in my life. I am pretty boring right now. Well, I went to get myself a passport though. So there might be a trip happening sometimes next year but you’ll never know.

Without further ado though let’s move on to today’s chosen seiyuu who happens to be Yuuichi Nakamura!

Known for: Kosaka Kyosuke (Oreimo)

My favorite role: Kosaka Kyosuke (Oreimo) (very original you don’t have to tell me)

I will be honest, I find Yuuichi Nakamura to be a little too discreet this season. I was used to him being in many more shows than he is now. But at the same time I don’t mind that much. Yuuichi Nakamura is a good seiyuu and he can do a few things with his voice, but at the same time, everyone knows how quick it is to get sick of a seiyuu.

Like, the most well-known example, for me at least, is Kaji Yuki. Aren’t you sick of hearing him as the main character in every single show this season?

Main offender happens to be World Trigger, in which Yuuichi Nakamura also stars. And that’s where he shines. He isn’t the best, and he often does the very same type of voice but it has a smooth quality to it and it’s a voice that’s very nice to hear from time to time.

The thing I like most about his voice is that he can put a lot of emotions in it. Sure his characters are often the stoic type, but take someone like Kyosuke in Oreimo. I think Kyosuke is his best character. Yet Kyosuke is no one special, the perfect ordinary character who leads a very ordinary life and Yuuichi Nakamura has managed to put a lot of life in this character and made him even more relatable than he was. Yuuichi Nakamura can take a very average character and give him some sort of aura of coolness. He does that as Jin in World Trigger don’t you think?
He is one of the first seiyuu I have discovered and whose name I could remember back when I first started watching anime (which was both a long time ago and somehow feels like yesterday) and to this day I still can’t forget him.

I don’t know how many of you have watched Gundam 00 (and if you haven’t you should) but he was voicing the token masked character you can find in every Gundam. As usual with masked characters, Graham was quite the strange guy, and I still remember how passionate his voice felt back then. Actually Gundam 00 might be the one anime that sparked my love for seiyuu in general.

Either way, Yuuichi Nakamura is good and you should hear more of him whenever you have the chance. Also, he doesn’t have a bad singing voice either. Though it can be hilarious (as in Shirokuma Café‘s ED …).

I do wonder about whether or not you guys like and recognize him as much as I do …
