No Seiyuu No Life: Mai Nakahara

Posted on the 04 June 2015 by Kaminomi @OrganizationASG

Life from Japan is still as awesome as ever, minus the numerous earthquakes that we are facing currently. It’s strange though as you can get used to everything, even earthquakes, it’s getting to the point that I sometimes don’t even notice them anymore…

But let’s stop talking about my earthquake problems and let’s move on to Mai Nakahara, who is the seiyuu of the day.

No Seiyuu No Life: Mai Nakahara
Known for: Rena Hyugu (Higurashi ni Naku Koro ni), Haruno Yukinoshita (Oregairu)

My favorite role: Haruno Yukinoshita (Oregairu)

I don’t really know where to start on Mai Nakahara, she’s quite a tough one to write about because she’s one of those seiyuu you hear so much that you stop not noticing anymore.

To be honest, today is the first time I even looked at her biography, I know who she is, I know her name and I know she has been in a lot of things I have watched (and also in a lot of things I haven’t watched) but for some reason I never really paid that much attention to her.

In a way, it’s a good thing, it means she’s good enough to blend into her characters. In another way though, it’s bad because it means you don’t remember her as well as you could, or should and I find that a bit sad.

It’s even more the case since she had some major roles in anime. I’m mostly talking about Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. I mean, everyone or nearly in the anime world has seen or at least heard about Higurashi, and everyone or nearly has heard about Mai Nakahara‘s character, Rena. Am I wrong ?

Either way, this character and this anime is supposed to have made a mark in everyone’s mind, yet, I didn’t connect the character with the seiyuu until today. I find it a bit sad. I know I have watched Higurashi a long time ago but usually seiyuu somehow stick into my mind, Mai Nakahara didn’t, or at least she didn’t in Higurashi.

Somehow and it’s a bit strange she stuck into my mind because she was voicing the lead character in Zakuro. For some reason the voice she had as this character just wouldn’t get out of my mind. Maybe it is because I have the character songs for this anime (they exist and they’re really cute), maybe it’s because I loved this anime but either way, Mai Nakahara was great in this anime.

Currently, the reason why I chose her to write about is because she is voicing Yukinoshita in Oregairu. Yukinoshita has a very discreet presence but is also very powerful and somehow, I thought it summed up Mai Nakahara‘s career and voice style pretty well.
