No Seiyuu No Life: Go Inoue

Posted on the 09 October 2014 by Kaminomi @OrganizationASG

Ladies and gentlemen hello! This is the great start of a new legend, today is the start of my new column on OASG. As you probably didn’t guess from the title this will be a feature about voices, a feature about one of my numerous obsessions, a feature about seiyuu.

It will run once every two weeks and I hope to make it interesting to you. If you have any suggestions to make, please don’t hesitate.

And now to kick things off, let me announce the first ever best seiyuu of the last two weeks: Go Inoue!

No Seiyuu No Life: Go Inoue

Known for: Sky High/Keith Goodman in Tiger&Bunny

My favorite role: Satoshi Tsuchida in Kuroko’s Basketball

No Seiyuu No Life: Go Inoue

I am pretty sure you are wondering why I choose Go Inoue for my very first award. In truth it’s very simple: he’s not Yuuki Kaji. I am serious.

With the start of a new season you discover many new anime and the presence of Yuuki Kaji was so overwhelming that in the end I nearly couldn’t hear anyone else.

That’s why I choose Go Inoue.  Because he is the only other that really stood out for me.

I was watching Shingeki no Bahamut Genesis, knowing he was in it, as usual not remembering exactly who he was playing but fully expecting to recognize him the very first time he spoke. Yet I didn’t. And it’s exactly what I loved about his voice in this anime. In a way, the fact that his voice wasn’t exactly recognizable fits the character, it makes him sound normal, it doesn’t take away the focus from the character. It could have been a little stronger and remarkable, a little bit less monotone, especially since Kaisar, his character, was angry nearly every time he spoke.

No Seiyuu No Life: Go Inoue

In Shingeki no Bahamut Go Inoue is playing one of the main characters. He talks a lot and yet I didn’t recognize him at first. And then I realized, that’s something that’s been happening very often with him.

I discovered him first in Tiger & Bunny, I heard him before of course but didn’t really pay attention. His voice is nothing special but it’s deep and gentle and he can convey a lot of different emotions with it.

The moment I actually fell in love with him was when I realized he was the one playing Tsuchida in Kuroko’s Basket. Like in Shingeki no Bahamut, I didn’t instantly realize it was him. Of course Tsuchida doesn’t talk a lot, quite the contrary but I really did think I’d recognize Go Inoue everywhere.

In short, Go Inoue is my favorite seiyuu of the day because he can do lots of different types of character and do them well. Now I just hope he is going to get a lot more main roles.

Now, what about you? Did you notice Go Inoue or is it just me? Also, did it happen that you were surprised a certain seiyuu was voicing a certain role and you didn’t even know about it?
