A mesmerising, gripping novel from the winner of the 2015 Theakston's Crime Novel of the Year for SOMEONE ELSE'S SKIN. Perfect for readers of Clare Mackintosh and Alex Marwood. 'Written with the verve and assurance of a future star' Helen Dunmore Two young boys. Trapped underground in a bunker.

Five years later, the boys' bodies are found and the most difficult case of DI Marnie Rome's career begins. She has to find out who they are and what happened to them. For no-one has reported them missing - and it seems she is the only person to care.

[DS Noah Jake watched Debbie Tanner swinging between the stations desks with her cake tin, like a burlesque dancer collecting big tips. DS Ron Carling dripped a hand into the tin with his stare on DC Tanner's chest as if someone had stuck it there; googly eyes]

I read the author's brilliant debut Someone Else's Skin when it came out, immediately bought this book and forgot all about it. Why? Shame on me. I read another book in the series Tastes like Fear but that's about it. I loved every word of this book and have bought the books in the series I haven't read. First off, I loved the title of the book. It fits the premise perfectly. This is incredibly sad. Rome is deeply affected by the bodies of the two little boys found in a bunker in the back garden of someone's house. They were clearly cared for as they had food but still died. Why? The case is full of twists and turns are Rome and her team try to find out who put the boys in the bunker and why while trying to save two other boys around the same age who vanish. This is different than a lot of thrillers. The case is tragic and deals with needless deaths, not caused through a deliberate act. This gutted me.
