Palace dubai gates

The Palace Downtown Dubai is no ordinary hotel.  From the entrance gates to the pool, it’s exotic and beautiful and resembles a Middle Eastern palace.  I’ve stayed at many 5 star hotels over the years with work and conferences, many have a generic ‘hotel’ feel where you could be anywhere.  The Palace Downtown looks and feels like you are entering another world from the moment you enter the Arabian style arched gates and pass the gorgeous pools that line the driveway.

It’s so hard to describe in words so I’m going to let a whole lot of pictures do the talking.  I feel like I won the hotel lottery as the setting and location are so close to The Dubai Mall and The Dubai Fountains (you can watch them from some of the rooms and also from the Thiptara restaurant which juts out into the Burj Khalifa Lake.

My yummy breakfast and the Burj Khalifa

My yummy breakfast and the Burj Khalifa

Arriving in Dubai in the early morning, after checking into The Palace Downtown I headed straight to breakfast to refuel.  The breakfast buffet is scrumptious with a smorgasbord of options to choose from. I’m particularly fond of all things mango, so was delighted to be able to enjoy a fresh mango smoothie or two during my stay!  Want more indulgence?  Well you can have freshly made-for-you waffles with a myriad of sauce and topping options, fruit, cheeses, pastries and a variety of hot dishes, both traditional and western.

Now my honey says I’m a bit of a princess when it comes to pillows.  I hate anything too soft that gives no neck support so in saying that I was delighted when I discovered the “pillow menu”.  Immediately when I arrived I tested the pillows and ordered a selection of firm pillows to try out.  When I arrived back to my room later that day and the pillows had been delivered, they were stacked high on my bed and I felt like a princess staying at her palace.

There are so many beautiful vistas around The Palace Downtown.  From the rooftop terrace and restaurant, to the swimming pool and the breakfast terrace where you can sit and enjoy the views of the Burj Khalifa (the tallest building in the world).

Every time I left my room with my trusty camera in hand, I snapped photos as the detail and decoration are divine.  One of my hotel buddies was interior designer Chris Carroll from The Life Creative, and we discussed many times just how amazing The Palace Downtown is, and how many decorating ideas and inspiration you could get from it.

The light fittings alone were gorgeous.

Palace Downtown Dubai spa

I was lucky enough to get a couple of hours in the hotel spa, which is one of the best, being a finalist this year in the World Luxury Spa Awards.  My treatment was a signature Oriental Hammam, which is a body scrub and Moroccan mineral mud experience.  The treatment left me so smooth, soft and relaxed and the spa experience with its post treatment relaxation room was divine and much needed after our very, very busy few days in Dubai.

Palace Downtown on the Burj Khalifa Lake

One of our last meals was at the hotel’s Thai restaurant Thiptara which juts out into the Burj Khalifa Lake and is right next to the dancing fountains.  We sat at a prime table and watched The Dubai Fountain display each half hour during our dinner.  At night time the fountains resemble a fireworks display set to music from all cultures (and who doesn’t love a fireworks show?).

Honestly I could wax lyrical about The Palace Downtown for days and would stay there again in a heartbeat.  The staff were all so helpful and a delight, the setting sublime and the atmosphere authentic.  What more could I ask for?  So do yourself a favour and when you go to Dubai, stay at The Palace Downtown Dubai
