
The Agriculture Development informed the farmers not to give money to anyone for the mapping of paddy fields in Sri Lanka as it is done for free by the Department.
But it has been reported that some agricultural research production assistants charge money from the farmers who own paddy land for this purpose of mapping. As a recent incident, it was reported that agricultural research production assistant officers have taken money from the farmers of Polpithigama Rambe area and Agriculturethe Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, has ordered the Commissioner General of the Department of Agricultural Development to conduct an immediate investigation into this incident.
The Department told farmers to immediately inform the District Assistant Commissioner of Agriculture if any person or officer requests money from the farmers for mapping their paddy fields.
The Department of Agricultural Development has started the mapping of paddy fields across Sri Lanka these days and through the GEO Goviya application, paddy fields are being mapped to measure the current amount of paddy land in the country and the actual amount of paddy land.
