The NRA’s motto of “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” is so magnificently incapable of describing the real world of gun violence it is truly stunning. Case in point: a Georgia man, 69 year old Phillip Sailors, shot and killed 22 year old Rodrigo Diaz… for pulling into his driveway. Sailors, a Vietnam veteran, for some reason thought that Diaz wanted to rob him… so he shot him in the head. In reality, Diaz accidentally pulled into the wrong driveway while looking for his friend’s house.
I’d like to ask the NRA, “Who was the good guy and who was the bad guy here?” Sailors, who is not in jail facing murder charges, honestly thought he was defending his home. Diaz did nothing other than pull into a driveway. How does the NRA deal with incidents like these that don’t fit into their little comic book version of reality? They simply ignore them.
Situations like this show the reality in much of the gun violence in our country: No good guys, no bad guys, just guns and human error.
